My Story

ABOUT DASHER Dasher is a 2.5 year old cat who arrived at HAP back in January 2021 as a stray. She has the softest silver coat now, but upon her arrival, she had severe skin ulcerations & was very itchy. We treated her with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications, medicated baths/topical creams, and even a hypoallergenic diet, but she continued to cause new lesions. We placed her in a protective e-collar and nail caps to prevent her from self-harm, biopsied her skin and discovered an immune-mediated 'allergic' skin disease, and started her on immune-modulating medication. Thankfully, a generous donor sponsored a specialty visit at Penn Vet with dermatologist, Dr. Dan Morris. Following his recommendation, her medication and diet were adjusted. We're happy to report that her skin condition is FINALLY getting so much better! Throughout this whole ordeal of nearly 2 years, Dasher has remained loving, affectionate, & oh so sweet. She currently lives in her very own room, with space for play and visitors. Upon entering, she will greet you with a head bump and rub. With one look in her eyes, her motor starts running! She loves climbing her cat tree and will even roll over for belly rubs. While she has lots of love for humans, Dasher prefers to reign queen as a solo cat. She currently wears an e-collar and glittery nail caps so she doesn't scratch herself (#manipedi game strong)! Her resilience truly inspires all of us. We hope in our hearts someone will take a chance on her. Dasher would heal much faster in a home, as her stress here has a strong impact on the immune system. To help Dasher find a home we waived her adoption fee, will provide a prescription for her diet, and will offer her medications through HAP at a low cost for the rest of her life! **Dasher would do best as your only cat in the home. To help Dasher find her forever home, a generous donor has sponsored Dasher's adoption fee! If you are interested in adopting this cat, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific cat but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, and a small bag of food to get you started
