Meet Punky Brewster! This chonky tabby was approximately six years old when she entered Kitty Devore's foster care program in May 2023. When we rescued her from the Devore Animal Shelter, she wasn't in the best head space. No longer able to care for her, her previous owner stuck Punky in a small crate for a while (which also explains her curvy figure). She was understandably mad at the world, but time and patience enabled her to blossom into the spicy and lovable kitty she is today.
Ms. Brewster (her preferred form of address, thank you very much!) enjoys being petted and brushed but doesn't have a problem letting the humans know she has had enough by swatting their hands. Being picked up is something she's willing to tolerate in short bursts, but it seems to scare her, so she prefers to be on solid ground. She embraces a laid-back approach to playtime, casually pawing at strings but not so interested that she'll chase them. Gazing at wildlife through the window is another of her low-key hobbies. Quite predictably, she is also a big fan of food - dry, not wet. She kindly reminds her foster parents when it is time for breakfast or dinner by circling their legs and meowing. Punky also enjoys taking naps by burrowing under the blankets and curling up next to people. She's a perfect gentlelady, willing to adjust to whatever sleeping position the human picks.
Punky is not a fan of other cats when they take an interest in her - she clearly expresses her discontent with growls and hisses and can be pretty dramatic if they move close. Her foster brothers like to pick on her, so she can't be blamed. All the girls in the house have agreed to uphold social distancing rules, so Punky isn't bothered by them. She would do best in a forever home as a single cat or with another cat who understands how to pretend she doesn't exist. There aren't any dogs in her foster home, but it's doubtful that she would get along with them.
