My Story
***Swiper is a Working Cat Candidate!
Swiper is a 7 month old neutered male. He is current on his vaccinations, microchipped, and FIV/FeLV negative!
***Swiper has lived as an outdoor kitty before but is used to being around people and does occasionally like the company of his human counterparts as well as pets at times! But he is happiest when he has the option to come and go as he pleases which is why he would make a great barn kitty or even shop cat! Plus, he currently resides with several other kitties in a communal living area here at the shelter all of which he gets along with great!
Are mice overcrowding your workplace? Would you like to save the life of a homeless animal? The Coulee Region Humane Society’s Working Cat program provides working cats (also known as "barn cats") who are unsuited for traditional adoption with a unique job and forever home. They are given a chance to live out the rest of their life doing what makes them the happiest - roaming freely while still having a safe place to call home!
Working cats are typically under-socialized and usually arrive at the shelter as strays or outdoor cats. They normally want nothing to do with people and get extremely stressed when confined. Some of our working cat candidates may occasionally allow gentle pets from people they trust after time and might even follow you around from time to time to observe what is going. The majority of the time though they prefer their independence and will observe you from afar. These cats cannot be house pets but thrive in a "working" environment where they can patrol a barn, stable, outbuilding, shed, or even a warehouse. They get to live a fulfilling life with a family who cares for them, and you get a rodent-free property!
