Hello, I am Andre!
Before I tell you a little bit about myself, I should let you know that I got myself into a bit of trouble before I arrived at the SCAS. The family that surrendered me had not had me very long and through no fault of my own I ended up in a situation where I felt the need to bite. Since arriving at the shelter and upon evaluation, I have been a very sweet boy who craves the attention from the nice people here and love my daily walks!
So let's get into some things about me. While I am 16 years young (yes I know, I look great for a senior dude!), my personality and enthusiastic energy level leaves many who meet me in awe of my dashing looks and vitality. I am nowhere near what you humans call "retirement" and have plenty of left in the tank! I have not been dog-tested yet and I am not sure how I feel about cats so would need a meet-and-greet with any potential canine and slow intro to kitties.
Please consider coming to meet me and I promise you you will fall in love with me!
Andre truly is a sweet boy who deserves to live his golden years (yes we don't think he's anywhere near done!) in a home with an experienced dog family who will look past his past indiscrepancies and give him a warm bed to spend his time in. Other than his biting incident, Andre is not a fan of veterinarian visits; if interested in this golden boy, the shelter will be happy to provide more information on this quirk. Other than this we have not noticed any other notable issues in his time here to this point.
Senior dogs can be exceptional pets, as they are by no means an unpredictable playbook when it comes to their routines, mannerisms, and the immature puppy years have long since passed.
As Andre is not neutered, there are restrictions on adoption. Please see below for more information.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please take note that the pet you're interested in has not undergone spaying or neutering. Consequently, certain adoption restrictions apply. To adopt Andre or any other unaltered animal from our shelter, you must be a resident of either Stafford County or one of the neighboring counties, which include:
· Caroline
· Culpeper
· Fauquier
· Fredericksburg City
· King George
· Prince William
· Spotsylvania
Should you reside outside of these specified counties, you remain eligible to adopt a pet that has already been spayed or neutered. We greatly appreciate your understanding, as our primary aim is to promote responsible pet ownership. These adoption guidelines align with state regulations and are designed to safeguard the welfare of our furry companions. For detailed insights into our adoption process, please visit this link: https://www.staffordcountyanimalcontrol.com/how-to-adopt.
We want to express our sincere gratitude for considering adoption. While you explore the possibility of bringing a shelter pet into your home, we kindly request your understanding regarding one limitation we face: our shelter does not employ a resident veterinarian. Consequently, it is crucial that you make arrangements for necessary veterinary care for your adopted pet outside of our facility.
To proceed with the adoption, you will be required to present a photo ID that displays your current address. In the event that your address isn't on your ID, you may bring a current utility bill that bears your name and address, alongside your photo ID. This verification process is in place to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals under our care.
For the safety of all our feline residents, we mandate that cats be transported in a carrier. If you don't possess one, we offer cardboard pet carriers available for purchase at $5 each. This ensures a secure and comfortable transition for your new family member as it embarks on its journey to your home.
Adoptions at our shelter operate on a first-come, first-served basis, unless otherwise specified. Please be aware that adoption services conclude 30 minutes before the shelter's closing time.
You are more than welcome to visit the shelter during our regular hours of operation: Monday to Friday: 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturdays: 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sundays and Holidays: Closed
Our shelter's physical address is 26 Frosty Lane, Stafford, VA 22554. Should you have any further inquiries or require additional information, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at 540.658.7387 or via email at

Once again, we express our sincere gratitude for your thoughtful consideration of adoption and your unwavering commitment to offering a loving home to a shelter pet. We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to welcome you to the Stafford County Animal Shelter in the near future!
