My Story

Benji is a very smart, easygoing, young dog. He gets along with dogs and is eager to please his humans. He know sit and settles well in his crate, complains for ... 30 seconds to a few minutes. He is learning leash manners. Benji has good recall and takes treats ever so gently. He'd be a lovely companion. Benji has had no accidents at home. There is almost no background story on Benji before he became an SSR dog, other than being within minutes of execution in a high kill TX shelter. He was terrified when he came off the transport truck on a gloomy Friday evening. Then his paws and nose discovered wonderful green grass and that questionable past faded away. Benji sniffed and rolled and sniffed some more. Oh, he thought, what is this wonderful place!? It's much different than the place I came from! Benji didn't know how to jump into the car, but once there he was soooo curious about the world going by. He rode quietly watching things and then settled down for a short snooze on the highway. Once home in the garage he politely declined to exit the nice safe car for the unknown, but with gentle encouragement he finally agreed. Everything inside the house is new to him and he's very curious. There's only been 1 accident due to FM not reading Benjii's signal to go outside. He's not a huge fan of the crate and needs firm persuasion to enter. Once in, he settles with only a minute of gentle protest. Toys are starting to be of interest and he really like a chew bone left at his feeding station. Benji went to the dog wash and was willing if not exactly cooperative. Benji knows the secret ninja trick of turning from a 55 lb dog to a 155 lb stone in the tub! He loves the fenced yard and has investigated the perimeter closely. He chases a tossed ball eagerly but the return step is a work in progress. Given verbal prompts he takes care of 'business' and then comes racing over for praise. Benji's puppy level energy is emerging more and more each day. He really want to run and wrestle and investigate. With visitors to the house he became shy and timid. He tends to hang close to FM. We haven't encountered other dogs up close but he seems curious. Cats are an unknown. If you are an approved adopter and are interested in this dog, please let your case worker know.
