My Story
My name is Bolt and I am, you guessed it, a very handsome 4-year-old Siberian Husky.
You want to guess why I was named Bolt? You see, I used to bolt because, true to my breed, I love to run. I so very much wanted to run with my people, but they did not have time for that, so I took every chance I got to get that run in on my own. I don't regret those days. Being out on the streets taught me how to be street smart. I met all kinds of people and some dogs, and I learned how to be friends with everybody. I love all people, including the short and loud ones that are called children, and I have had some playdates at the shelter with a few other shelter residents and really had a blast with them. I like to play rough and a lot like most dogs of my kind, but I also know when my playmates have had enough and I usually offer to take a break.
I have heard from people that I am essentially the perfect dog and the only thing I still need to work on is my leash manners. I still enjoy pulling ahead, because, let's face it, the two-legged animals on the other end of the leash are painfully slow sometimes. But I am trying really hard and I love, love yummy treats, so I am starting to get the hang of how to slow down just a little bit when necessary. Yes, you read that right - I am a Husky who loves treats. And I love to learn, and I will always work hard to get my reward. Sometimes I find humans just gazing in my beautiful blue eyes and telling me what a good boy I am even more rewarding than treats, and in those moments I happily roll over for some good belly rubs.
I'm having a great time with all the shelter staff and volunteers, but when they are not there, my life is kind of boring, so I am actually on the lookout for a new home. My ideal human is:
- Somebody who likes to be active. If you don't like canicross (yet), a few miles a day of speed walking will do. Although I heard somebody mention something about me having heartworms and not being able to go too far too fast yet. I think it's a good thing, because that makes it so that we can build our speed and distance slowly together.
- Somebody who does not mind finding a white hair or two on their clothes every now and then.
- Somebody who is excited about teaching me lots of new tricks. Paw and down are getting kind of boring. I want to learn new things.
- Somebody who wants to take me to places and show me off because seeing new things and getting to know new people.
- A four-legged buddy is always nice to have around but I'll be ok with just the two-legged ones also.
