My Story

Meet Cairo! Cairo is a 10 month old American Staffordshire Terrier/Boxer/Bulldog-type mix who is looking for his new forever home! Originally, Cairo's family had to surrender him to another shelter when their landlord said he could not live there. He then ventured to our shelter when the other facility became full - so we're just another step before he finds his family! Cairo, like most pups his age, is full of energy and zest! He's a strong boy, so experience working with breeds like Cairo will be a plus. In the shelter environment, he's a bit stressed here, but nothing that can't be worked with. Let's face it, there's a LOT of stimulus in a place like this, so he has a harder time feeling relaxed. But, fret not, once he's in a nice, loving, structured home, he should do just fine! Because Cairo is still a puppy, his new owner(s) should be open to any of the continued training a puppy like him needs. This will mean lots of practice and patience, and spending a lot of time bonding with him. He's also an active and athletic boy, so he would love an owner who can get him out every day to work the body and the mind! Things like hiking through the woods can help stimulate his senses and wear him out, but also satisfy the physical needs. He's also going to benefit from things like daily walking, jogging, and exercising his brain in positive ways. Sometimes when Cairo gets over-stimulated, he becomes more mouthy, so his family should help him to learn how to calm down and behave appropriately. According to his previous owner, Cairo lived as an only pet, but had regular play dates with a friend's pup - so as long as another doggo can handle Cairo's playful energy, he should do well! We do not know how he would do with kitties as we don't think he's ever met one before. He has also lived with children and done well. We are also told that he was potty trained, but may simply need a refresher course in a new home so that he can catch onto the new schedule. Cairo is such a happy, adventurous puppy - if you're looking for a dog like that to add to your life and join you on your outings, Cairo would love to meet you! He is fully vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. Cairo's adoption fee is $180.00 We are doing all meet n' greets BY APPOINTMENT ONLY after an adoption application has been approved: https://www.co.monroe.wi.us/departments/dog-control/online-animal-adoption-application
