My Story

COOPER was surrendered to rescue his owners realized he had more energy than they were prepared to deal with. As expected with a puppy this age, Cooper is a busy little guy and loves to run in the yard and play with toys. He has good leash walking skills but does want to chase cars and we are working with him on that. He is very outgoing and friendly, not shy like most shelties are. Cooper will need a more active home with a fenced yard. He needs a family who is willing to spend the time training him and ensuring he has enough exercise. We are also requiring prior sheltie / herding dog experience because his herding instinct is pretty strong. Although Cooper is crate trained, he is a young dog and will not be suitable for a home where he will be locked in the crate all day while his people are away. If you work outside the home and have a dog walker that comes to your house, we will require their contact information and will be calling them. Leaving him uncrated while you are away is not an acceptable option. This is a young dog and young dogs get into all sorts of things if left unsupervised for long periods of time. Cooper would love to have a playful buddy in the home but he would also be okay as an only dog, provided his family is committed to giving him enough attention and training to keep this busy little guy happy. Cooper will be a bigger sheltie when he is done growing, probably 25 to 30 lbs. And, Cooper is a happy little guy and likes to bark quite a bit so would not be suitable as an apartment dog. Note that we are located in NJ and we adopt dogs to homes in NJ or reasonably close. We do in person home checks on every adoption and we like to keep our dogs close.
