Meet the puppies! This dynamic duo was born on November 9, 2023! Fendi and Arlo are Great Pyrenees/German Shepherd mixes, so they will be BIG!! Anyone interested in adopting Fendi or Arlo must understand that these sweet peas will NOT stay little. Full grown Pyrenees dogs often tip the scales at over 100 pounds, and German Shepherds are typically 60-80 pounds. All puppies are a lot of work, especially large breed ones, but the rewards of raising a dog from its puppyhood is immense! These cuties will make amazing family pets, especially if their families commit to working them as their breeds like to be worked (behavior training, athletic activities, playtime, and mental/physical stimulation). Arlo and Fendi are intelligent, driven, loyal pups who will grow into amazing companions for their adopters.
Both puppies are working hard right now on potty training (about 80%), crate training, and basic obedience. They have had only a couple of accidents in their foster home, but in just a few short days they have both learned to paw the back door to go out to potty. They are making great strides and it will not be long till they are fully housetrained. Like every other puppy on the planet, they are chewers - but as long as they are provided with appropriate teething objects, your furniture and shoes should remain relatively untouched. They are great with kids older than 5; they are both gentle with little fingers and toes despite their sharp puppy teeth.
Like most puppy siblings, Fendi and Arlo do best when separated. In order to avoid Littermate Syndrome, they will be adopted separately. But they do play well with each other and the adult large dog in their foster home, so we would love to see them adopted to homes with another dog to play with.
Fendi is what we would describe as the scrappier of the two puppies. Smaller than her brother, she is sassy and silly; and absolutely LOVES her special mud puddle in the yard. She does come right in the door and sits on command to have those dirty paws wiped off! She plays well with the her brother and bigger foster sister, but doesn't always remember to share bones and treats - she is working on further developing that skill! Fendi doesn't have as big an appetite as Arlo, but she wolfs down her dinner every night. Breakfast and lunch are meals she is less interested in, but she will eat if distractions are limited. She is submissive to the large, adult dog in her foster home. This cutie is sugar and spice and everything nice - and So. Much. Fun! ...
