Grant Tux A161971
40 lb. neutered male, approx 3-4 ish
He is a wonderful family addition with really only 2 issues that are already improving but will take a little time. His age is a question mark - maybe 2, maybe 6, you can think of him as 4ish. PLENTY of life in this one either way. He runs like a horse around the yard, and I can't find a good name for him but it should probably be horse or dancer-related, with his agility, grace, and tuxedo markings.
Physically, he has dandruff from malnourishment (his coat is SO much better than it was but has a little more to go), severe pressure sores (again, healing beautifully but needs a little more time) and happy tail that was bleeding but healed in 2 days. He is putting on weight like a champ (he's about 40 lb now) but understandably is obsessed with food. His adopter needs to commit to keeping counters and tables clear and toilet lids closed for a while. He has a sensitive stomach and grain-free kibble will help him out (his coat needs the salmon he's on right now but I suspect his stomach will do better with chicken).
He is NOT a cuddler at this point, and rarely gets on the couch. He does lean in for pets and belly rubs, though, and wants to be around. He does bark a lot from separation anxiety/fomo, but he's a great candidate for a sidekick to bring around town. He's very quiet, easy, and independent when not separated (deliveries get a good warning bark, though, he's no slacker!)
On walks, he's more of a look-arounder than a stop-and-sniffer. He wants to climb trees for the squirrels, and he saw a cat and pulled a bit but didn't chase.
Grant occasionally wants to play with my grumpy old dog and there's potential for success there (which is unusual for my dog) but it's short-lived. He barks at and wants to play with the friendly neighbor retriever. He would love a playful, derpy doggy sibling or one that can teach him how to introduce himself better.
(Slow introductions a must!)
He clearly lived in a disciplined home at one point. He's potty trained, knows 'sit' like a champ, and loves routine (if you walked him at sunset one day, he will be at your knee that time the next night). He rarely gets on the couch and sleeps on the floor (if you invite him on the bed he may or may not listen).
He ignores my kids (baby through age 6) and their toys (he doesn't eat lego, yay!), but also isn't careful of his paws so families with children on the floor would definitely need to monitor his feet. He's non-reactive and calm with them - my baby grabbed his snout once and he did nothing. He self-entertains a lot, calmly and carefully desqueaking his own toys.
So with the exceptions of countersurfing and the separation barking during the mandatory decompression days (those just stressed him out more), he's been an easy foster! He really is a fantastic guy - calm, communicative when he needs something, very intelligent, chill, independent, sweet but not clingy, curious but not annoying. Highly recommend, honestly!
