My Story

Gus is one of the friendliest and most affectionate Labs you’ll ever meet! He’s seven years old and, even though he is a larger Lab, needs to lose a bit of his current 98 pounds. Gus joined us after his lifelong owner passed away. Gus is house trained and crate trained although he is fine with free roam of the home. He knows sit and shake, and everyone is greeted with a wagging tail. Gus enjoys car rides and appreciates a hand getting in and out of the back of a vehicle. While much more into people than dogs, he gets along well with other dogs. He is possessive about his food and toys with both dogs and people. For this reason, a family without children is best to avoid any misunderstandings. We’re not sure how he feels about cats. His absolute number one favorite thing is being with his Peeps, leaning in for love and getting loads of attention. There’s no such thing as too many ear rubs, tushy scratches, and face “smooshies”! Walks and meeting new people, games of fetch and toys are faves too. More from his foster parents: “Gus is a big old teddy bear. He craves attention and love. He wants to be your best friend and have your undivided attention. Gus is one the friendliest labs I’ve met! He loves to be played with and can be a bit bossy with barking if he wants attention and isn’t getting it. Overall he is laid back and is happy to be around you but enjoys being active and will fetch toys for quite some time. “He would benefit from some moderate regular exercise. He enjoys going on walks and catching up on all the smells, but he doesn't need to walk multiple miles at a time. He gets tired after one mile. “Gus's ideal forever home would first and foremost be with someone who wants a dedicated best friend. He's got a lot of love to give but needs a lot in return. They should spend a lot of time at home or be able to take Gus with them. Ideally, his future home wouldn't have a lot of stairs. He can do them when he wants, but he's pretty cautious going up and down. Being an only dog or having another dog that is more independent would be good because he wants all the attention. “I like how much Gus wants to be my friend. He wants to be with me, see what I'm doing, and try to help out. He's a big friendly shadow that likes hanging out and following me around. He has soft kind eyes and a big goofy smile. He's a heck of a guy that's looking for his new best friend.” NOTE: Gus has some old scars on his legs from skin allergies. With us he received medication and a cytopoint injection https://www.zoetispetcare.com/products/cytopoint to address his allergies. He is comfortable and doing well now.
