My Story
******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************
We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.
Howie, 2 years old, neutered male, labrador/German Shepherd/boxer mix, 45 pounds. Howie is in San Antonio, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up!
Howie was saved from euthanasia at a rural animal shelter northeast of Houston with his friend, Fawn, who we also took into the rescue. Cleveland, where they were saved, is notorious for its stray and loose animal population, and a general disregard and neglect for animals.
Howie is a dashing young man - outgoing and friendly, gregarious and affable, with a funny, sunshine-y spirit. He has been around lots of other dogs - all as big as he is - and done really well. He keeps a loose body posture and enjoys running around exploring with his friends. Howie is a talker and loves to chime in when the other dogs get to barking but has really settled into his own once out of the shelter.
Howie has been around kids mostly over age 9y with success. He can be a bit hyper so, while we think he could be around very young children, we would typically recommend homes with kids over the age of 10yrs, or those who can understand and will respect animal behavior cues. We have no history with cats.
As would be expected from his breed(s), Howie is very smart and easily trainable, he just needs the one-on-one attention from his handler. He wants to please and responds well to treats and praise. He's improving with his leash skills but has proven to be nicely crate and house trained. A little bit mischievous, Howie has learned how to break from his kennel so carabiners work really well to keep him where he needs to be. He has also been known to scale a fence or two - so we would definitely suggest keeping a close eye on him when outside.
Howie loves a good toy - bones and stuffies are his favorite! He is fed away from other dogs as a general rule of his caregiver but has shown no issues with sharing or playing nicely. He enjoys giving and receiving affection, and especially loves kisses. <3
While we will never know the exact details of his past, we can be sure of what his future holds - all the love and affection a boy can give! Howie's ideal home would be moderately to highly active with lots of outlets for his energy - walks/hikes, play dates or doggy day care, training, and joining along for fun excursions like dog-friendly breweries, restaurants and coffee shops.
***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***
