My Story

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Kiara, 8 month old, spayed female, black labrador retriever, 52 pounds. Kiara is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Kiara's mom was saved as a stray from the streets of Houston by a kind family fully intent on keeping her. What this sweet family didn't know, however, is that she was pregnant with THIRTEEN puppies!! Amazingly, this family remained dedicated to mom and pups, and sought out rescue help vetting and adopting out the pups. Kiara is a high energy young lab girl who lives in a foster home with another large (86lbs) dog, enjoys playing with them and knows when to stop. She has no issues meeting other dogs and when seeing them on a leash, cries and pulls to go say Hi. Kiara has met the resident cat and will bark at her but does not chase after the kitty. She's met young children (ages 3y and 5y) and done well. I Kiara is still learning her manners so until she's a bit older, she should be supervised with very young children in case she inadvertently knocks them over. She would absolutely love, however, to find a furever home with older kids to chase her around and play all day long. n general, we recommend homes with kids over the age of 10yrs or those who can understand and will respect animal behavior cues. Kiara has quickly picked up on a routine schedule for pottying and crate training. She still has the occasional accident but does not go in her kennel, which she does okay in. She sleeps and eats in her kennel (she has a habit of resource guarding her food so her foster does not allow mingling of food or treats). She has no issues with her human taking away food or toys. Kiara still needs more practice on a leash as she pulls and sidewinds a lot. She would do best in a home that's active and will take her on lots of walks or other physical and mental outlets for her energy. She would excel in training - and would definitely be best served by receiving some - as she is food motivated and eager to please. She still has some puppy tendencies: she barks a lot to get attention or to be released from her kennel and she is notorious for getting into things she shouldn't. Her ideal home would be familiar with labrador antics and all that the breed offers. She is smart, inquisitive, athletic and active, and she would love to be your furever girl! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her?
