My Story
******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************
We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.
Koa, 6 year old, neutered male, pitbull/bull dog mix, 70 pounds. Koa is in a foster home in San Antonio, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up!
Koa was found with significant injuries to his forehead, eye and neck - clearly this poor guy suffered significant trauma but has healed well. He's seen a vet who said Koa will bear the scars for the rest of his life but assured us they make no impact in his health nor do they cause him any pain. While we're sad about the pain he must have endured, we believe the scars are endearing and enhance his sweet personality and charm.
Koa is a gentle giant and an absolute love bug who loves to play with anybody who will play with him. He is bigger than most but has been fine with all sizes of dogs - small/medium/large and currently lives in a foster home with 9 dogs! He has demonstrated no issues meeting dogs while on leash and just wants to play. Koa is confident on his own to not require another dog in the house but would definitely enjoy having a sibling or two.
After a few minutes, Koa walks well on a leash and doesn't pull. He thrives on a schedule and is house trained, but adopters should expect regression is possible until he gets acclimated to his new home. He is trusted to be loose in the house for brief periods of time and sleeps in his kennel overnight. He's not displayed any resource guarding or food aggression but is known as a bit of a Hoover vacuum when it comes to remaining tasty bites. ;-)
Koa lives on 10 acres and is trusted to be outside while unsupervised, usually exploring the enclosed property, lounging in the sun, or playing with his foster siblings. He enjoys roaming the property and has no issues coming back when he is called - he knows where his bread is buttered and is not missing out on the good life ever again! His foster describes him as having sharp bursts of energy before being ready for rest.
Koa has been around young teenagers without any issue, and on occasion, kids about 8yrs old. He has an ability to control himself that we don't believe there's any reason he couldn't be around very young kids and he would love to have a gaggle of kids to chase him around in play. As a general rule, we typically recommend homes with kids over the age of 10yrs, or those who can understand and will respect animal behavior cues.
Koa is very affectionate and like any big dog, doesn't realize his size so will often choose to sit on you if he can. He just wants to be loved played with and fed, as he has a very healthy appetite. Koa enjoys curling up for a nap or resting nearby his people and says that his ideal home would be one where he is loved, safe, fed well, and given daily exercise.
We have no history with cats.
**Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***
