Meet Lola and Baby, senior mother and daughter bichons. They were sadly surrendered to a local shelter this week as their owner was homeless and couldn’t keep them any longer. They were clearly loved and are sweet outgoing friendly girls who seem to love everyone and everything and are fine with other small dogs too. Lola is 11 years old, and her daughter Baby is 8. They will be getting full medical work ups this week: Baby has a large soft squishy mass on her chest but otherwise they seem to be in pretty good shape.
The saddest part of their story: they were a trio until this morning ? Sweet boy George came to us with them yesterday afternoon and we quickly realized something was very wrong with him beyond just being scared and stressed by the move. We had to let him go peacefully ? ? this morning at the emergency hospital to prevent further suffering due to severely advanced kidney failure. (His creatinine was ELEVEN! for you veterinary professionals on our page- not conducive to life ?). Like the girls, he was exceptionally gentle and sweet right until the end. If only he had more of the feisty evil spunk of our little demon dogs he probably would have been able to pull through ?. Nothing can kill them, they are immortal and will outlive us all with or without kidneys ? ? It’s always the sweet ones who don’t make it.
As we said our goodbyes we promised him we would take good care of his beloved “girls” and make sure they find the best home together. The least we could do so they don’t have to suffer any more losses. They are definitely searching for him tonight and used to doing everything as a trio, but are comforting each other and will have to adjust to their new normal. They are very friendly spunky curious girls who dance for attention and have great personalities.
We will update more after their medical work ups once we have more info later this week and hopefully they will be ready for homes very soon…

Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
