My Story

** Interested foster through rescue ** MACHO MAN ACCT-A-155090 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to medical concerns. Macho Man must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER by MONDAY, JANUARY 15th at 10:00 a.m. Should Macho's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Sweet senior Macho Man came to us after ten years in the same home when his owner moved somewhere that does not allow pets. Despite being confused about his new circumstances, he was beautifully behaved and immediately started melting hearts with his big smile and soft eyes. Unfortunately, Macho Man has some senior-related medical concerns that need attention, and he has acquired an upper respiratory infection. As a senior dog, Macho Man is at high risk for rapid decline in the shelter environment and urgently needs to leave with a rescue that is able to provide him with the medical support he needs to thrive in his golden years! On intake, Macho Man was observed to have hind end weakness and muscle wasting. Further examination by the veterinarian indicated pain and discomfort through Macho's spine and hips. We suspect age-related disc disease is causing the pain in his spine, as well as osteoarthritis affecting his hips and stifles. He will be in chronic discomfort unless his conditions are managed with appropriate medications and joint supplements. He has been started on medication in shelter and we are already seeing an improvement, but he needs closer monitoring and more individualized care than we can provide. When he is feeling better, he will also need a dental procedure to remove a painful fractured tooth. Noted to be sweet and tolerant for all of his exams and treatments, this distinguished gentleman enjoys pets and attention. A volunteer friend says "he's got pep in his step and enjoys adventuring outside! He walks well on a leash, is super polite, and takes treats very gently (even cheese-and he really loves cheese). Macho Man has not been to playgroup-as he is still stiff and uncomfortable, we do not want him overwhelmed by younger more rambunctious pups-but during dog meets he has been friendly and laid-back. He has lived with children and with other dogs, but should not go to a home with cats. After having his life upended so abruptly, this handsome man deserves the chance to be a loving companion in a home that is willing to support his care and keep him happy and comfortable. He promises to show you his gratitude...especially if you have some cheese for him! If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/ . All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia; as the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly's Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week.
