My Story

Madison was adopted by a veteran from a questionable “rescue”. It wasn't long after taking her home he realized something was amiss. He took her to the vet, who determined that Madison was jaundiced, underweight, had hookworms, and had a liver problem. It appeared that she had been a puppy mill breeder Mama who had been badly neglected. Knowing that what she needed was beyond his scope, he surrendered her to the vet so she could get the help she needed and have a chance at living a better life. Brookline was contacted and the vet tech who worked at the vet’s office offered to foster her! Following her spay and a liver biopsy, it was discovered that Madison has Copper Associated Hepatitis and Grade 5 copper accumulation. Now that we found the problem, she is on her journey to recovery! That recovery includes a special diet and some meds to help get the copper out of her system. Now that Madison is feeling better, her true colors are coming out! She is full of energy and loves to run and explore the yard but at the same time she is just as happy snuggling up on the couch with you! She knows some basic commands, but is still getting used to being an inside dog, so beware of her happy tail knocking things over! And glass doors are a mystery to her. She does love her crate and will happily stay there while you are at work. She's great with kids and loves everyone. She may be shy at first (please don’t wear a hat at first meeting) but once she gets to know you she loves to give hugs and will always be by your side! Her safe place is either in your arms or in her crate. Her foster home is on a farm, so she is used to greeting all types of animals – horses, goats, chickens and barn cats – nothing fazes her. She also lives with several dogs – an alpha female hound who wants her space, a female Pittie who has no sense of space, and a high energy male puppy – her favorite! Madison is an absolute sweetheart who lives life to the fullest and is the happiest dog you’ll ever meet! She’d love to join her forever family soon!
