My Story

03/05/24 Weight: 66.4lbs Estimated DOB: 05/06/18 Spayed: 09/16/22 Hello! My name is Maya! I can't be any prettier! I'm in foster in Baja, MX, but I can fly up to you anytime! Maya is a resilient and loving soul who has triumphed over adversity, and she is now ready to find her forever home. This sweet girl was surrendered by her previous owner due to health issues, which included a large tumor on one of her mammary glands, severe anemia requiring a blood transfusion, and a diagnosis of Tick Fever. However, Maya's spirit proved indomitable, and with proper care, she has overcome these challenges. Her foster mom describes Maya as an absolute joy to have around. Maya is not only sweet but also incredibly affectionate, always sticking close like a loyal shadow. She has a positive and happy demeanor, constantly displaying interest in meeting other dogs without any signs of aggression. Maya seamlessly integrated into a household with a Jack Russell and a Baja Special, respecting the pack dynamics. Maya has quickly adapted to home life, demonstrating good manners and a desire to be wherever her human is. Initially introduced to a kennel for bedtime, she quickly caught on to the routine and willingly retreated to her sleeping space. Even after being spayed, Maya adjusted well, showcasing her adaptability by sleeping on her bed without a kennel. Her foster mom notes that Maya responds well to commands and is content when left alone in the bedroom during short absences. She shows gratitude upon the return of her human, making her an ideal companion for someone looking for unconditional love. Maya's love for balls is infectious. Whether she's playing pickleball or watching from the sidelines, her enthusiasm is boundless. It's a simple pleasure that brings her genuine joy. On the medical front, Maya's vet recommends regular retests for cancer every three months for up to a year. While she is currently in good health, local adoption is advised due to potential future treatment costs. If you're ready to welcome Maya into your heart and home, she is prepared for adoption at any time. Maya's story is one of resilience, love, and the promise of a bright future. If you're seeking a loyal companion with a heart full of love, Maya might just be the perfect addition to your family. Adopting Maya means providing her with the love and care she deserves, ensuring that the second chapter of her life is filled with happiness and security. Before leaving Cortez Rescue, all dogs will be given a full medical assessment to insure optimum health, current on vaccinations, and desexed. Cortez dogs arenot microchipped.
