This beautiful little girl has another story that started terribly but we are going to make sure ends happily!
Maya was found stray and was limping. X-rays revealed that she had a broken elbow. Sadly she remained in the shelter with no treatment until we were able to get her out a couple of months later.
The general thought was that she would require amputation of her front leg, but after consulting with our vets they said there was still a small chance that she could heal if we splinted it for awhile..
So, we decided to give her that chance! The splint was placed on 2/27/24, and we will be changing and monitoring it for the next couple of months, hoping for healing! If not, we will go through with the amputation. Either way she will be just fine, as tripod dogs are not held back at all! We just figured if there was a chance to save her leg, we should take it.
Maya could potentially go to a foster-to-adopt home if the adopter is willing to provide the care she currently needs, get her to appts., etc.
Otherwise the wonderful foster she is with will continue to provide the excellent care she has so far, and Maya will go straight to her lucky forever family as soon as her injury is completely addressed.
As for her personality, you couldn't ask for a sweeter dog! She is gentle and friendly with people of all ages, dogs, and cats! She is a snuggler who loves belly rubs, and is definitely a velcro dog who loves her family.
