Meet MITCH
A DOG FOR THOSE WHO LOVE QUIRK
Mitch is his very own unique self and we love him for it.
Mitch, was found in a ditch.
People living in the area or passing by, started reporting him to social media pages as possibly being hurt and not too happy about people wanting to help him. If they stopped to offer, he would growl and show his teeth. He sat in the ditch, in the same space, for several days before a vet tech, from the clinic we used, had seen enough and went to go see if she could help him. He gave her the same routine, but she called his bluff, threw a leash around his neck and Mitch jumped up and happily followed her to her truck, where he jumped in and gave her happy kisses all the way home.
So, that is how he got the nickname, Manic Mitch and why we say, he needs a person who loves quirk,
Mitch is a lover. He adores affection and attention and sitting on laps and going for walks and car rides and treats and toys and is a happy guy BUT, he has quirks.
Mitch has an alter ego and we think but cannot say for sure, like a child who has lived with trauma, his alter ego comes out when he feels threatened and he can feel threatened, by things like, "Mitch, get off the couch" or "Mitch, give me that candy wrapper" or "Mitch, you need to go outside now".
So what to do with Mitch when he is being manic? Put a leash around his neck and all is well. It is magical. It turns the defensive mode off immediately and Mitch is happy go lucky, let's go have fun, again.
Mitch is not to be defined by his manic issues though, because he is so much more than that and such a good boy, 98% of the time but we would be remiss, if we did not let potential adopters know, he can get snarky if he feels too put upon.
Otherwise, Mitch is a fun loving, awesome dude who probably got dumped because of his little personality issue. Maybe his owner passed, who loved him the way he is and the family who inherited him, did not appreciate his opinions. It is hard to say but he shows evidence of having been loved and cared for, in his house manners, leash skills, love of travel, understanding of basic commands and his affectionate, friendly nature, which is the side he displays, 98% of the time.
Mitch loves toys very much and will run around the yard or house, with one in his mouth, shaking it to bits, throwing it in the air and catching it, than parading it around like a trophy. He also loves joining his foster in the morning, for admin work in the office, where he sits on the chair next to her and lays his head on the desk, watching every move. He takes this work very seriously. He loves a good lap time snuggle and melts into you like butter and will stay there until you get up. He is housebroken, crate trained, praise, treat and toy driven and knows some basic commands like sit and down. While he is probably not the best choice as a family dog for a real young family with toddlers and kids who have not been taught how to respect a dog he did very well with his fosters grandson who is a dog savvy and very gentle six year old, laying next to him and enjoying his company, as he played on his tablet. He does great with other dogs and cats but his foster has found, that as time goes by in her home and Mitch gets more comfortable, he is feeling more inclined to chase her cats and takes exception to the younger, annoying dogs in the home, like adolescent pups with boundary issues. For this reason, to avoid his return once he gets comfy, we would love to either see Mitch go to a home with older, easy going dogs, probably no or very dog savvy cats OR to someone willing to accept that he has a dual personality that flairs up now and then, and love him anyway. So far, when he gives chase, it is just chase. There is no aggressive intent to harm. Just a love of seeing something run from him and feeling that ego boost.
Mitch is around 8 years old, weighs 17lbs, has a continuously growing coat that will need regular grooming. He sat very patiently for a trim with scissors but all his matted coat was removed at the vet, while under sedation, to prevent him from feeling the painful pulling that comes with huge mat removal. How he does with clippers, is unknown but he will sit happily for hours, letting you scissor him.
He is neutered, up to date on five way and rabies vaccines, microchipped, fecal tested clear of parasitic issues and ready to bring some fun, adventure and affection, into your life.
If interested, please go to our website at www.allmuttsgreatandsmall.org/adoption and fill out the application. Mitch is a lovely fellow who deserves love, affection and forgiveness for his flaws. Hopefully, that is right up your alley because Mitch will devote himself to you.110% for the rest of his day.
Adoption fee is $325
