My Story

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION. 1. Would do well with another dog to play with. 2. Children should be old enough to withstand a puppy jumping up on them. 6-month-old male Chihuahua/Border Collie mix puppy, about 26 pounds. Born at the rescue on 8/7/23. Brother to Byron, Matteo, Isadora and Felice. Meet Morgan This handsome and sweet dog, dubbed “Morgie-Porgie” by his foster mom, was born at the rescue on 8/7/23 to momma Maritza, a chihuahua mix. We have information that his dad was at least part Border Collie, which means Morgan is exceptionally intelligent, easy to train and eager to please. He loves pets and snuggles, gives kisses on command, and really loves “hugging” you or being in your lap while you watch TV. More of a homebody and people person than a lone explorer, he can be in a home with a small yard or no yard as long as he gets in a few daily walks. He is timid around most adult strangers for the first few seconds but will interact quickly with encouragement. However, he seems very at ease with children he’s never met and will eagerly approach them and jump up on them for attention (which may scare some young kids). He is quiet at home, unless someone is at the front door, or a dog is walking nearby on the sidewalk – then you will experience a few loud Border Collie-type barks. Morgan is very respectful of other dogs and does not get involved in any kind of bad behavior at the dog park. He gets along well with his foster sister dogs, does not ever bite or nip, but he will give a warning growl if the other dogs try to take his food or treats. He's still a puppy but has grown into his adult-like good looks and is getting bigger every week – this dog loves to eat! He wants to try all kinds of treats and likes all dog food, dry or wet. Morgan’s adult weight may approach the 40lb range. He was easily leash trained and responds quickly to consistent leadership. He will pee on command in the same spot in the yard but prefers longer walks around the block to do his pooping business. He knows sit/stay/drop it, and “OK take it” for food and treats. Needs lots of chew toys and lots of direction around what is an acceptable chew toy–fabric items and wood furniture legs are fair game until he is trained that it is not to be chewed on. Also tolerates riding in a car but hasn’t quite gotten used to it yet (drools a bit but will grow out of it with more car rides). He's learning everything about being in a big city, including loud noises, big cars and buses, going into stores. Being a puppy, he is sometimes very energetic and will do a few zoomies around the living room several times a week. Morgan is crate trained and sleeps in a crate every night, overnight, without crying. He will cry if he is crated, and the other dogs get to go outside. He is used to being let outside to pee every time he exits his crate, and otherwise, at least every 3-4 hours until he is an adult. To request an adoption application, email [email protected] Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older. Puppies are adopted with a refundable spay/neuter deposit (in addition to the adoption fee) and adopters are required to get their puppy to our vet for their pre-scheduled spay-neuter appointments. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at [email protected] or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. 8632781We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. You must live within a three-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), so we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
