*You can check the status of her adoption at www.doodles.petfinder.com or any of our social media pages. We will change her status to adopted when she is adopted.
*We base our adoption decisions on what is in the best interest of our dogs. Please note our adoption policies are in place for the safety and welfare of our dogs. We are all volunteers and have jobs, families, pets of our own to care for. We do the best that we can to get back to you in a timely manner. We believe in taking time to go through our thorough process to try to match the dog with the best fit for that dog.
*You must be approved to adopt her before we will schedule a meet and greet. We do not transport our dogs.
*AGE: 2 months old (born December 9, 2023)
*WEIGHT: 14 lbs. (we expect she will be a large Doodle in the 50-70 lb. range as an adult
*FENCE REQUIREMENT: A physical fence and a yard are required. She requires daily exercise & enjoys playing with other dogs. No shock collars or invisible fences will be considered, as we do not feel these would set her up for success.
*COAT TYPE: soft flat coat that will likely shed. She is still a young puppy her coat may change but we think she will have a shedding coat once her adult coat comes in. Adopter should be prepared to have her groomed regularly with an estimated cost of $100/groom.
*ENERGY LEVEL: Opal has very typical puppy energy! She will have spurts of excitement usually followed by a nap. She plays like a typical puppy and will bite at everything when playing.
*DOGS: Opal has been doing great with her foster family's dogs. She wants to puppy play with them and does not take their cues when they don’t want to play. She will pester them and won’t stop unless redirected to something else. She has been with her littermate since birth and they play a lot and play rough. We think she would do great in a home with another young playful dog, as long as that dog is tolerant of her puppy play and will be patient with her. We will not place a puppy in a home with an older dog who would likely be annoyed by her puppiness. Due to the intense, playful nature of puppies, she would be best placed with dogs with a similar desire to interact and play.
*CATS: unknown.
*KIDS: 6+. Unknown, Opal has not been exposed to children in her foster home. Due to her puppy energy; biting and jumping with her razor sharp nails, we think she would do best in a home with children over 6 who can tolerate her teeth/nails and help her learn how to play with kids.
*CAR: Opal has only been transported in the car in a crate. She did well; she settled in the crate and was quiet until arrival.
*CRATE: Opal does well in the crate. She usually has to be picked up and put in the crate, but once she is in there she will settle fairly quickly. She has not had any accidents in her crate. She has been sleeping with her doggy brother, so we expect she will have a harder time in the crate without him.
*HOUSE TRAINED: Opal will go potty outside whenever she is brought out. But she still has not quite gotten the hang of potty training. She still has accidents in the house. She had been litter box trained and will go in the litter box if she is contained in a room with it. Her new family should expect to spend several weeks potty training Opal.
*LEASH: Opal is a typical puppy. She walks as well on a leash as you would expect a 2-month-old puppy to. She pulls, jumps, and wanders. She will need leash training.
Outstanding Opal was surrendered to IDOG from a breeder who was unable to sell her and her brother, Murphy-IL.
Here is what Opal’s foster family has to say about her:
Opal is a super sweet, energetic puppy! She is very vocal and will bark a lot when playing. She tends to be dominant over her brother (her littermate). She will take toys from him and start a puppy fight with him whenever he has a toy she wants; which is all the toys. She is not a super snuggly puppy. She will snuggle when she is tired, and wants to be around people when she naps. She is always afraid she is going to miss something, so does not fall asleep as fast as her brother. She is always on the go – until she crashes. She does not like to be held; she will run away when you try to pick her up. Once picked up she will squirm and try to climb up and over your shoulder. She is a sassy little thing who has a mind of her own. Her new family should expect to take her to training and be consistent with her to keep her from thinking she is in charge!
Due to the intense needs of puppies, we will require adopters to be experienced dog owners with someone home during the day, so she is provided with human interaction while continuing to work on training. We are looking for adopters who understand the training, exercise & socialization needs of puppies.
She has seen our vet and received dewormer, heartworm/flea tick preventives, and is current on DAPP and Bordetella. She will need her DAPP booster soon and her Rabies vaccine around 4 months of age. She is microchipped. She is too young to be spayed so IDOG will hold a $200 spay deposit. The adopter will be required under contract to spay her by 9 months of age. You will need to send the vet receipt to IDOG and we will then refund the deposit. If you fail to get her spayed by 9 months of age per the adoption contract terms, you will be required to return her back to IDOG Rescue.
ADOPTION FEE: $400 adoption fee + $200 refundable spay deposit to be refunded upon proof of spaying by 9 months of age
ADOPTION FEES:
Under 6 months: $650 and up
6 months - 2 years: $450 and up
2 years - 4 years: $350 and up
4 years+: $250 and up
Special Needs fee/donation assessed on individual basis
Puppies have a higher adoption fee to help IDOG cover the vetting and expenses of the other dogs in IDOG whose adoption fees do not cover their expenses.
