My Story

Meet Oreo! This delightful 12 year old girl was rescued by our team from an empty apartment. Unfortunately the family of a disabled veteran was no longer able to care for her when their father was hospitalized and now suffers from advanced dementia. She's a LOVELY delightful and well-socialized girl. We thoroughly vetted her and did full bloodwork which was perfect. If you're looking for an easy-going, grateful dog friendly girl who loves EVERYONE, look no more! Her foster mom says: "Oreo is a delight to be around! She is super adaptable and chill. She warms up to people and situations quickly and is very house-trained and curb trained (in fact, she will only go on grass or dirt or cobbles, never on sidewalk). She offered us her belly quickly and a couple days in was insisting on as many belly rubs as she could get. She's a very gentle giant. She takes treats gently and for a big doggo, doesn't take up much space. She's content in a small 1bdrm apt and squeezed into too small a bed, since that's all we had to offer her. She's good on leash, good at walking, and despite a bit of joint stiffness (which is getting better with supplementation) really LOVES to walk! If you try to go home too early, she'll insist that the walk continue. Oreo is very well mannered and mild mannered. She clearly understands the word "no". She doesn't like getting wiped after a walk but all she'll do is try to disengage by walking away. She doesn't eat plants or get into anything she isn't meant to, though she does like to take a sniff around. Despite being 12, she likes to play a bit of tug-o-war with her toys, though she's also content to laze about. Oreo is SO interested in other dogs! Seems like going to a home with another dog (or more than one) that are friendly might make her really happy, as long as they got along. She's not nearly as food obsessed as I would've expected but she has been eating well. She's a beauty and a sweetheart and just the loveliest soul. She'll give her new family a lot of love and would appreciate a wonderful new home to live out her golden years ???" INTERESTED IN ADOPTING? To adopt Oreo, apply on our website www.truenorthrescue.org/adopt and email [email protected] to follow up on your application. PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL TO ASK IF HE/SHE IS AVAILABLE. IF THIS LISTING IS UP, THE DOG IS NOT ADOPTED YET. Also, we have a very high volume of applications and we are all volunteers. We cannot respond to every application personally. Please make sure your application gives us a good picture of your family and the life you plan on providing a dog from our rescue. We choose a home based on the BEST FIT for EACH dog and approve on a dog by dog basis. Thank you!
