My Story

I am from Charleston, West Virginia. My daughter and son-in-law live on a farm nearby. Three years ago they bought a gorgeous, pure-bred, border collie. They have done their best to make a good home for her. She is wonderful and sweet but they are busy with three young children and full time jobs and haven’t had time to train her with the intense training that a border collie needs. They haven’t been able to break her extremely strong herding instinct even a little. She constantly tried to herd their poor little, elderly, half-feral horse to the point that she would stay out on the farm for days, not even returning for meals while she kept watch on that horse. The elderly horse died recently, and now Penny goes to herd the neighbor’s dogs. She makes a horrible racket with her barking. She really needs a home where she actually has sheep or something to herd or needs intense training to ease her intense herding instinct. She has pulled all of us down with her leash when she was rushing after her herding targets. I spent a lot of time myself training her for simple commands but the herding instinct is just too strong. She needs a job. She loves me and we have a wonderful bond but I can’t be with her as much as she needs. My daughter doesn’t really want to get rid of her but she just can’t be running after her constantly to catch her and bring her inside to keep her from running to the neighbor’s house to harass their dogs. She is wearing her whole family out with her energy. I put a tracking collar on her once and she ran 10 miles in one hour around the farm. Her new home MUST HAVE A FENCED YARD & NO CHILDREN UNDER 12. NO APARTMENTS! ARCBCR courtesy lists dogs for individual owners, other rescues, and shelters wishing to place their Border Collies or Border Collie-mixes themselves. These dogs are not in the ARCBCR program. ARCBCR does not warranty any of the information provided about the following dogs. Should any issues arise, ARCBCR will not be held responsible.
