Potato

Potato is our longest resident. She was dumped just days before Hurricane Ian by her breeder. She was obese (98lb) and heartworm positive. She has since been treated for heartworms, has been fully vetted and has been on a diet. She looks and feels so much better, weighing in at 63-65lb. Potato is a special girl. She is perfect in the house, never chews anything she shouldn’t, is house and crate trained, does not get on furniture unless asked and is very well behaved. We have worked with Potato daily on her social skills. She was used as a breeding machine, so she likely had few positive interactions with other dogs. She did not seem comfortable with other dogs in the beginning but is doing better every day. We feel that in the right home and with the right people, Potato could thrive with another friendly, respectful dog. Though she has not had issues with females, we feel like the best match would be a like-sized male. She is not reactive during walks and outings, when seeing other dogs. Potato is good on leash and listens well. She is very food motivated and intelligent. She could likely be trained to do almost anything, if someone puts the time into working with her. She likes to play fetch and frisbee. But more than anything, she loves to be with her people. She will flop over in her back for belly rubs. She is currently fostered with other dogs and cats. But we feel that no cats in her new home would be best. Potato cannot live in a home with birds and as odd as it sounds, fish tanks. She enjoys chasing lizards outside.
