Raccoon

Meet Raccoon! She is a reminder of why we do this work. Raccoon was a stray in Texas. A good Samaritan noticed she looked pregnant and set out to help her. She was captured and brought to safety where she gave birth to seven puppies. She was the most incredible mother and took care of her babies until they were weaned and ready for adoption. Now it’s Raccoon’s turn. It was immediately evident that Raccoon had rarely been handled by humans, and when she was, she was likely mistreated. She has the BB pellets under her skin to prove it. What became clear after the first few interactions with her was she didn’t hold that against anyone. She wanted to be loved and she wants to give love in return, unconditionally. Raccoon is a 15lb Chihuahua Cattle Dog mix and is estimated to be just about a year old. Raccoon is currently learning what it means to be a pet. She is pee pad trained and a quiet, easy keeper. She does well co-existing with respectful dogs. Raccoon will do best in a quiet house without children. Raccoon needs a patient home, one that is willing to give her the time to trust and love her new owners. She is just becoming her own self again after selflessly taking care of 7 wild puppies. She needs to relearn what it is to become a young dog again, but with your love, time, and support, she will be happy to do it. Our favorite thing about her is when she climbs into our lap and whines because she yearns for love in return. She has so much to give, and we cannot wait until we find the right person for her!
