My Story
Hi, I'm Rascal. I am 100% living up to my name. I am about 6 years old and a very special boy with some quirks that will take a lot of patience.
People haven't always been nice to me, and that frightens me. It takes me time to warm up to new people. While warming up to them, I try to scare them away by growling. I have never bitten, but I have thought about it, and I will give you all the signs that I will. So, as a precaution, my foster mom has a muzzle that she likes to have me wear while meeting new people until we all become comfortable. It's so hard to read when meeting new people. I will run up to them and ask for love and pets while I growl at the same time. I kind of sound like the Tasmanian devil. My tail is wagging the whole time, and I am asking for attention, but it's cut short when I start growling. With the muzzle, we could get past that faster. You should pay attention to these signs. Being like this, I should be in a home without any children living there or visiting. I am not housebroken and need someone with the patience and time to help me. I am scared easily and need that gentle person who will teach me with a kind voice.
I love being outside; if it's nice, I spend hours playing with my fur family. I am cat-friendly and love to play with other dogs. But sometimes, I'm a little too playful. I also like to try to mount other dogs. But I take corrections from the other dog well and will stop.
This Tasmanian Devil sound I make sometimes makes it hard to read me. You don't know if I'm growling, playing, or enjoying what you're doing. You will have to learn to read my other cues. Is my tail wagging? If yes, I like what we are doing. Am I licking my lips (even if my tail is wagging)? If yes, I don't like what we are doing. Please stop now.
You can tell me no, but you should never punish my growl. You want me to growl so you know when I have had enough. All I need is a break. Once I know what you want, I will try to do it. I sit for food and treats but have yet to learn to stay or wait. I'm trying, but I get excited about my food. I LOVE food and treats. I also like chewy toys. Mostly hard plastic bones. I'm also trying to learn not to jump. I like to jump up with all four feet leaving the floor. My foster mom is working on this, and I am improving.
So, if you have the time and patience for a cute wagging tail fur friend, I am here waiting. My foster mom will happily help with her knowledge on how to help me become a good boy in your home.
