My Story

Rosy was brought into a local shelter in rough shape. We think she is at least 10 maybe older. Like all local shelters currently they were over full. They reached out to us to take Rosy. We had room. We did not known what we would get the next morning when we picked her us. But she we know she needed help. Rosy came to use all matted and caked in dried on mud. She was nervous about ll the changes in her life. We could only assume she was living outside on her own. The shelter shaved her back end so she could at least go to the bathroom. They clipped around her eyes so she could open her eyes. We finished the job the first day so she could be more comfortable. Rosy allowed us to do this because we assume she knew it should make her feel better. Taking the weight of the caked mud and mats alone must have helped her. After the shaving and a warm bath all she wanted to do was sleep. I think she slept the first week whenever she could. She would go out to use the bathroom but came back in to find a soft bed to lay in and sleep. Our vet checked her out to find she had dry eye which is being treated with eyedrops. Hair in her ears was so deep that they could not get it all out and under the hair she suffered an ear infection. She is on ear drops to clear up the infections. When she goes under for a dental and a spay they will clean out the ears. So we are not sure if she is deaf or if the hair causes sounds to be muffled. Time will tell. Rosy’s teeth are in pretty bad shape. So Rosy has a dental scheduled when she is getting spayed. We can assume her month hurts from the infections and bad teeth, She is arthritic due to age and neglect. Currently she is on an anti inflammatory and joint supplement. She is heartworm positive and we will be proceeding with the slow kill method of Doxycycline for 30 days and Heartworm preventative every month. We will retest next year and then decide if we will continue with the slow kill or not. But she will always need to be on heartworm preventative from now one like all dogs should be. After over a week of being in the foster home she is staying awake longer and while outside will walk around as if she is taking the world, love and freedom in. She started off eating her food like it was her last meal but now she is slowly savoring the food and will stop when se get full. Rosy is blind or has limited vision. She will get nervous when she does not know what is happening but loves attention. When not in a comfy bed resting she will come over for attention. She is very quiet. Not sure if she has barked in her foster home. She is looking for a safe environment where she can be loved for who she is. Her dental is scheduled in May as is her spay. We are filling her up with food and love and vitamins to make sure she gets healthier before her surgery. Rosy is a sweet girl who just needs to be loved and given patience to learn her environment and schedule and her people. This sweet girl came from a not great situation and we want her to be spoiled and loved and be part of a family.
