Meet SAPHIRE!
Age and weight: 5 years old / 62 lbs
From Saphire's foster mom:
Describe how he/she interacts with other dogs: Sapphire does really well with other dogs, she loves
playing and when nap time comes around, she loves cuddling. She is very vocal when she plays, lots of
growling and barking, but she is very much just playing.
Is it known how they are with cats? She was calm but curious around my cat, she barked at him a few
times. However, she never chased him or went looking for him.
Have they been around children? YES! Sapphire LOVES playing with kids. My nephews came over with
their soccer ball and instead of kicking it around themselves, she would chase the ball and catch it with
them. When they were done and tired, she curled up on the couch with them to watch a movie.
Do you consider them low, medium or high energy? I would consider Sapphire high energy. She needs to
get outside to run around and play, but at the end of the day she will calm down.
How do they react to meeting new people? Sapphire loves meeting new people. She may jump on them
to say hi, we are working on this.
Do you consider them outgoing or shy? Sapphire is very outgoing; she makes friends everywhere and is
usually loved by everyone she meets.
How does the dog walk on a leash? On a typical walk she does well on a leash, she may pull slightly if she
is trying to get to a smell faster than you’re walking, but overall, she is great. When going to specific
places, such as the vet, she gets extremely excited and may pull you along with her. We are currently
using a harness, she pulls less with this than just a leash to her collar.
How does the dog do in the car? Sapphire loves being in the car with the windows down and the wind
in her fur! If there is no one in the passenger seat, she may join you up front. She isn’t overwhelming,
she’ll just sit there and give you the occasional smooch at a red light.
Are they crate training? Yes, however crates are not Sapphire’s favorite place to be. Currently she is in a
crate (we call it her bed) at night and if we leave the house, she goes in willingly. During the day she
does well, but she doesn’t like being alone in her crate for long periods of time. At night, 7 hours is
about her limit before she is awake and ready to start her day.
Are they housebroken? Yes. She has never had any accidents in the house. She will stand at the door or
bark at you to let you know she needs to go outside.
Do they know any commands? Absolutely! Sapphire is very smart! She knows Sit, Down & Paw. She gets
annoyed with “other paw” but will eventually give you both. She is very good in a bath as well; she will
jump in and out of the tub on request and she will turn around for you to wash her other side.
What activities do they enjoy? Anything that involves playing. Squeaky toys are her favorite, even after
she rips the squeaker and the fluff out, the toy is still a good toy to her. She also loves playing with balls,
tennis balls, basketballs, soccer & volleyballs are the ones we have for her.
Do they have any fears (thunderstorms, fireworks, etc)? We have not noticed any fears.
Describe the ideal home for your foster dog? A home with other active dogs and kids for her to play
with. Kids aren’t necessarily mandatory, but her humans will need to play with her!
What is your favorite quality about your foster dog? Sapphire has a very strong personality and isn’t
afraid to tell you what she wants. When she first arrived, she never wagged her tail, praise and love
seemed foreign to her, now she wags it all the time. She also learned to cuddle while she was here. If
you let her, she will snuggle under a blanket with you while you nap. There isn’t any one thing about, I love everything about her!
