Scruffles came to APA! with partial paralysis (paresis), which we suspect is from a condition called IVDD which is a common source of back pain in dogs, especially in older dogs but also in younger dogs of predisposed breeds. The severity and type of disc injury can vary widely, ranging from mild discomfort to paralysis or trauma. IVDD is not uncommon in little dogs. Scruffles is not showing any signs of pain and loves to get around using his front two legs.
He is a sweet little dude. Only three years old. If you are looking for a Shih Tzu to love... look no further.
Scruffles loves life and does well getting around the world. He loves car rides and going everywhere with his person, loves other dogs and his chew toys and is still young and spunky. He may need meds for life and certain ones for flare-ups. However, it does not impact his quality of life.
