My Story

Some of you will remember Trooper. He has a very sad story. Both of his owners died, but no one knew he was in the house so it was three weeks before he was rescued. Even though 28 horses on the property were found dead, Trooper had survived. When we picked him up from the shelter, we could see he was having a hard time walking. But even though he was probably in pain, he never stopped wagging his tail. Trooper is a very sweet little boy. We did bring him in to our vet for testing and he does have arthritis in both knees and spondylosis in his back. We have him on Gabapentin and Glucosamine. He also received an injection for the arthritis. He is getting around a little bit better now that he is on medication, and even tries to run a little (especially when he hears his dog bowl being filled). He is 8-9 years old and will require the medication for his arthritis for the rest of his life. Trooper will go out and sniff around in the yard, picking up scents of little critters just like most beagles, but he doesn't really need leash walks. He can walk short distances at a very slow pace, but will not require and long walks. He mostly likes to hang out on his dog bed next to his person. He will follow his foster parents around the house and then just get comfortable in whatever room they are in. We would love Trooper to find his forever home. After what he has been through, he needs a house where someone is home a lot. He does OK in the house alone and does not have anxiety, but since he loves to have people around, it seems only fair that he go to a home where he won't be alone a lot. He gets along fine with the other dogs in his foster home. If you think you could make a great home for this sweet boy, our application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.org.
