My Story

Looking for a walking buddy? Whiskey is ready to join you for a stroll thru the neighborhood or go for a hike thru the woods! This young boy came into rescue with his brother after they were surrendered to a local shelter. He is smart and affectionate and ready to win your heart. Whiskey was not exposed to much prior to rescue but is learning lots of cool things—like the house, leash walking, sitting nicely to be groomed and get his nails trimmed, and jumping into the vehicle to go for a ride! Whiskey’s favorite thing is the leash—it means he gets to go for a walk with his person to explore in the fields. Whiskey loves to run around the yard to play with his person or the other dogs—male or female is ok in his book if they are up to play. Whiskey loves the kitties too! Whiskey is a little hesitant when meeting new people and will lean into his person as if guarding them – so will need a patient family who will socialize him with slow introductions. He now gives his foster mom kisses and face licks to show his trust and devotion. Whiskey, the typical PYR boy loves to use his voice to ward off possible “danger”. The more attention he gets, the more he relaxes and now happily gives his foster mom kisses on the face! The ideal home for Whiskey will have a dog sibling who can join him in a game of chase and PYRents who will take him on walks and socialize him. If you win this boy's heart he will be yours furever! NYS Registered Rescue # RR102 NGPR dogs are in foster homes at the location specified on their full listing. View the full listing (with location, fee and application link) at HTTPS://NATIONALPYR.ORG/ADOPTABLE-DOGS Completion of an application is required to be considered for any dog. Please fill out the application on our website and we will contact you. HTTPS://NATIONALPYR.ORG/ADOPTION-APPLICATION/ Due to the high level of interest we can't respond to emails unless an application has been submitted. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature (www.nationalpyr.org/know-the-breed) and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed.
