My Story

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Winn Dixie, 2 years old, spayed female, pitbull mix, 48 pounds. Winn Dixie is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Dixie is a lovable goof-head and very playful. She loves cuddles and a good toy, she is a "super chewer" without a doubt. She will do *anything* for a tasty snack - food is her entire life! She loves water and has a great time in the bath or playing with the hose. She can jump quite high and will counter surf, so her foster suggests keeping everything not just picked up but put away. Dixie has shown to be dog friendly but would do best with slow introductions over a few days. Once she figures out that the other dogs aren't a threat, she warms up and is good to go. She has been successfully introduced to dogs of all ages and sizes, and has done well the quickest with old/slow dogs who don't get in her face. We have no history of cats but her behavior would suggest she is best in a home without them or other small animals. Dixie has not been around kids but she is very strong and a jumper, so we would suggest a home with children 10 years or older, or those who respect and can understand animal behavior. Dixie is leash, house and crate trained, although she could use improvements in all areas. She is strong on a leash and gets excited when another dog passes by - not reactive, just barky but able to be redirected. She is learning house training but has had a few accidents, most notably when she is under the weather. She is never left loose in the house while unsupervised and is fed in her kennel. She rides well in a car but should be crated or restrained since she wants to be near (on top of) you otherwise! Winn Dixie has improved significantly in her behavior since going into foster but she is still very puppyish. Her ideal home would be with someone patient and willing to put in training to refine her manners and help harness her energy. Dixie's first couple of years were likely not the best to her and she lives every day to make up for that. She would love nothing more than to snuggle up on the couch, chew on a toy and indulge in all the treats your heart desires. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her?
